1 Imaginative Composition Either

a) Write a composition to illustrate the saying:

“Two wrongs do not make a right.” OR   (20marks)

b) Write an essay discussing how the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) will develop students holistically. (20marks)

2. Compulsory set text-Blossoms Of The Savannah by Henry Rufus Ole Kulet   (20marks)

“Women with voice of reason can liberate themselves or other women in a patriarchal society.”

Using Resian, Nabaru and Minik En Koitoi, validate the truth of the statement drawing illustration

from the novel Blossoms of The Savannah by Ole Kulet. (20marks)

Discuss the truth of this statement in reference to Noviolet Bulawayo’s short story. (20marks)

“Inheriting a top seat without merit only invites ridicule from subjects. Write an essay showing how Satire has been used in the play.  (20marks)

1. a). It must be a Story illustrating the saying a drowning man will clutch at a straw. If not deduct. If not deduct 4 marks.
• The student must show he or she understands the meaning of the saying.
• The student should bring out scenario which is creatively written and relevant to the saying.

b). It must be a descriptive composition if not deduct 4 marks.

• The student must describe characters, setting, scenes and situations.
• Adjectives should be well ordered when describing and he or she should appeal to all senses.

2. Introduction
Azdak’s compassion for the poor leads hi to rule in favour of them. He overturns justice in his own way in order to acquit the poor off their charges. He rule in favour of Grusha, granny Grussinia the doctor and the stableman.

J1. Azdak sympathy for Granny Grusinia makes him rule in her favour. Granny Grussin is accused of being in possession of a stolen cow a property of a farmer Suru., she was also found with a stolen ham and shutoffs cows were killed after she was asked to pay rent. She is brought in court before Azdak by the farmers who are the complainant. Granny defends herself saying that the miracle working saint Banditus gave her the cow as a souvenir since her son died in war, he also changed the hearts of the farmers by beating them when they came to take the cow. He even arranges for shutoff to let her not to pay rent a ham came flying on her window like a miracle, Azdak sympathizes and feels for the granny because she is bereaved, her son died in war. He calls her the Woebe gone and venders a merciful verdict. He even gives granny wine and tells the Granny to sit in the Judges’s chair. He empathize with her situation and acquits her off the charges and convicts the farmers for being atheist not believing in miracles. Each of them is fined is fined five piasters for godlessness. Justice is served to the Granny.

J2. Azdak gives poor GrushaMicheal and denies Natella the biological mother.
Natella is the biological mother of Micheal but she abandons him during the coup due to her materialistic nature, Grushanurtures the child and later after war Natella comes back and claim him. She takes Grusha to court court accusing her of abduction. Grusha defends herself that she brought Micheal up by giving him food, shelter and went through trouble and expenses for Micheal. Grusha also refuses to pull Micheal out of the circle for fear of tearing him apart. Contrary ,Natellla’s second lawyer tells the court that she cannot get the revenue of the state since they are tied to Micheal. Azdakthough seems her turning against him instead of making eyes to him. Azdak orders Shauwa to drwacircle ad put Micheal in the middle, Natella pulls harder while Grusha let go. Azdak gives Micheal to Grusha and fines Natella for fraud and taking the estate changing it into a children playground.

J3. Aazdaks acquits the poor doctor and convict the rich invalid out of sympathy for the doctor. The doctor is accused of treating a patient for free get he has not paid the invalid his money. The invalid had paid for his studies and when he heard he has treated a patient for free he got a stroke. He defends himself saying that he thought his servant had charged the limping man. He also asks to be forgiven since to make mistake is human, he accepts operating on the wrong leg. Despite Azdak scorning him for treating a patient for free yet other doctors overcharge patients he shows mercy to him and acquits him off the charges. He sentence the invalid to fire of one thousand piasters and tells the limping man he will be compensated with a bottle of rubbing alcohol.
Azdak rules in favour of the poor stableman and purnishesLudovia the Innkeepers daughter in-law. He innkeeper accuses the stableman of raping his daughter-in-law Ludovia. He brings the case behalf of his son who is away on business.He gives Azdak bribe but the stable man is poor he does not have money to bribe Azdak. Ludovica says the stableman handled her indecently and raped her. The stableman admitted starting. However Azdak sympathizes with the

stableman and accuses Ludovica of tempting him with her indecent dressing. He fines her to hand over the “little roan” to him and frees the charges of the stableman.
Conclusion
Azdak rules in favour of the granny, Grusha, the doctor and the stableman since he sympathizes and feels for the poor state.

Q2 a)Introduction
Some parents do not take care of their children and they abandon their duties as parents. This may affect their children who may end up developing bad behaviors.

P1. The parents of paradise are busy with leisure making their children sneak to go and steal guavas.Basta, Chipo God knows sbho, stina and the narrator are children from the paradise where parents are negligent. Their mothers are busy planting their hair and chatting and their fathers are draught under a Jacaranda tree. They do not care about their children or watch them. This makes the children sneak out of paradise since their parents are busy with leisure. The children moves out to Budapest and move to stranger’s houses stealing guavas. They have stolen from many houses that they cannot count. At the end they end up being arrested and taken to Juvenile correction centre.

P2.The parents do not provide food for children hence they survive on guavas. The parents of Budapest are supposed to provide food for their children. The narrator s hungry and her stomach feels like somebody who just took a shovel and dug everything out. In addition, they are so hungry that they wonder why Mello is throwing away food. After eating guavas the only thing they will drink is water for the night and sleep. This makes them survive by stealing guavas eating them. The narrator says that she has to go to Budapest and steal guavas since she is hungry. They have stolen in many compounds and even aspire to steal bigger things inside the house.

P3. They lack socialization skills since their parents don’t have time for them hence seems defiant to Mello.The children meets Mello. They dismiss Meloo since her voice does not dangerous and she is thin so they won’t run. They do not answer Mello when they are not used to adults asking them anything. In addition the only adults the only adult who smile at them at paradise is mother of Bores who seems crazy and smiles at anything. This makes children seem disobedient they do not answer her when she requests to take a picture. The narrator also does not say cheese since she doesn’t know what it means. Stina also gets bored and started walking away as others follow. Stina does not answer Mello when she asks if she is ok she defies and walks away.

P4. The parents do not take the children to school hence they idle, loiter and steal.Basta, Stina, Chipo, Sbho and the narrator do not attend school. Chipo dropped out of school and only remembers that Mr. Gono said one needs education to make money. The parents seems not to bother about their children education even if they are poor. The narrator is illiterate and does not understand the word cheese. As a result they loiter in the street of Budapest and exhibits lack of manners. Basta bullies Sbho laughing at her missing teeth. He has also beaten all the children except Stina. Basta tells Chipo he doesn’t need school to make money since he knows he can steal bigger things and be rich. They also steal guavas in Budapest making them to be arrested and taken to juvenile centre. She even writes a letter to Mello apologizing a Chipo wish to continue studying and be a counselor to guide and help children from paradise.

P5. Bastaa parents expects him to watch over his sibling and he ends up beating child.
Bastas parents do not have time with their child instead they shift the responsibility to Bastawho is a child. Basta is supposed to watch over his sister Fraction and not leave. If his mother finds out she will kill him. The parents are busy playing draught and the women plaiting that only a young child see them leaving and wants to follow them. Basta is cruel. He hits the naked child with a fist on his big read and the children all turn back.

Conclusion
In conclusion, parents should take responsibility of their children. If you spare the rod you will spoil the child.
