KCSE Exams Defy Public Holiday for a Green Future

Monday 13th November 2023 has been declared a public holiday. In a bold and unexpected twist, Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, has declared that the show must go on, even on a day usually dedicated to relaxation and reflection.  Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, refusing to let academic rigor bow to the branches of nature, made an announcement that took many by surprise. Despite the public holiday, the 2023 KCSE exams will proceed as planned. With unwavering determination, he urged all members of the Multi-Agency Examinations Administration Group to report for duty without fail, ensuring that not a single leaf of disruption falls on the  planned schedule.

November 13, 2023, had been declared a public holiday by the Ministry of Interior and National Administration to encourage a nationwide tree-planting initiative, a vital step in the fight against climate change. President William Ruto himself is slated to lead this ambitious effort to sow the seeds of a greener future—a commitment to grow an astonishing 10 billion trees by 2032.

The Ministry of Education, it seems, is determined to show that academic excellence can coexist with environmental responsibility. As the nation unites to plant trees and combat climate change, students will, in parallel, be huddled over their examination papers, focused and resolute.

This decision was not made in isolation. It was a result of a high-level Cabinet decision that took place in Mombasa on November 3, 2023. The government, in its commitment to saving the nation from the devastating effects of climate change, opted for this innovative approach. Education and the environment, hand in hand, are poised to shape the future of Kenya.

In a truly captivating turn of events, the academic fortitude of the nation’s youth will march on alongside the battle to secure a sustainable future, symbolizing the synergy of education and environmental stewardship in the face of a world in dire need of both.
