2024 Academic Calendar

This year’s academic calendar was released by the Ministry of Education encompassing all aspects of learning ranging from pre-primary, primary and secondary schools to teachers’ training colleges.

In 2024, for example, the first term in regard to pre-primary, primary and secondary schools shall run from January 8th to April 5th which is equivalent to 13 weeks of lessons. This term will include a three-day half-term break from February 29 to March 3 and a three-week holiday starting on April 8 to April 26.

The second term will last for fourteen weeks beginning on 29th April and ending on 2nd August but a half-term will take place from 20th to 23rd June. Following this period, there will be a three-week break between August 5 and August 25.

The last term of the year will take nine weeks, starting on August 26 and ending on October 25. With this term culminating with KCPE and KCSE that are expected in October 28-31.

After the tests come the Kenya Certificate of secondary education (KCSE) examinations, set to last for a period of two weeks between the fourth and twenty-second of November. Then, the long December holiday will run from November 2024 (October 28th, 2024 – January 3rd, 2025).

On January 8th, teachers’ training college term one commences in January up to April 5th. April 8th through 26th is a holiday. The second term begins on April 29, continues till August 2 and has a holiday break during August 5-30. This final term has an eleven-week duration starting on August 26 and ending on November 8. November 11 marks the start of the extended December holiday that ends January 3, 2025.
